Day: I fail at life (5?)

Hi friends,
So I totally fail at catching up. I don't remember what day we're supposed to be on, but the topic is: your favorite quote. Currently, my favorite quote is a verse in Save Me San Francisco by Train.

"Every day so caffeinated, I wish they were Golden Gated
Fillimore couldn't feel more miles away
So wrap me up, return to sender, let's forget this five-year bender
Take me to my city by the bay"

I'm originally from the Bay Area, so I do consider San Francisco my "home".  This song just speaks volumes to how I'm feeling about college right now.  It's actually kind of scary how accurate this part is in comparison to my situation.  a) I'm like a nervous wreck every day because of caffeine,  b) I often find myself thinking about how much better everything would be if I went to school closer to home instead of over 2,000 miles away, and c) I'm in a 5 year program.  Scary accurate, right? It's weird. Now, I'm not saying that I don't like college. I love it here, some of the time. I do wish sometimes that I stayed closer to home, but then again, I'm glad that I did go half way across the country because now I can say that I've experienced things that California doesn't have, such as weather and the lack of an ocean, and have a solid argument for living in the Golden State for the rest of my life after college.

Other than that though, this song just makes me really proud to be from California, and the Bay Area more specifically.  I love it when I hear a song or something about how awesome California is.  Also, this song makes me especially happy seeing as the only pro sports team I have cared about since I was a tiny child won the Pennant the other day and is going to the world series!!!

Yeah.
I mean seriously.... who doesn't love this guy?? Also, Posey + Wilson = total bromance, and I'm loving it.

Ok. Long rant over. Summary: I like my city... a lot. And I love the Giants. I don't like the midwest. Train is awesome. Buster Posey is a boss.

Day 4: I'm a 6th grade boy sometimes

a) Sorry it has been so long! It was midterms week and then fall break, and between staying up into the wee hours of the morning at the library and being at home relaxing by the fire, I just couldn't muster the will power to write new entries.
b) Today's topic is: your favorite book to add "in your pants" to. (if you don't get this reference, you will find the reference within this awesome video)
My go-to title for this one is always One Hundred Years of Solitude... in your pants. When I discovered the Vlogbrothers (rather when my friend discovered them and forced the awesome onto me) I was reading this book for my english class. It was the first book title + in your pants joke I made, and therefore, it holds a special place in my heart :)

I will TRY to get back on schedule. Promise!

Day 3: My Favorite Book

Hi friends,
Today's question is "what is your favorite book?". I'm pretty tired today, so you're getting a short answer. I hope that's ok.
My favorite book is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.  I like it because it's about a weird, angsty teenager with very few friends, and when I read for the first time I was a weird, angsty teenager with very few friends.  I guess it kind of helped me understand that being who I am is ok, and I don't have to be popular to be comfortable with who I am.  It also let me know that other people my age were just as confused about growing up as I was.
I'd recommend this book for any kid 13 or older, especially if they're having problems adjusting to adolescence.

Day 2: Books and Movies and Harry Potter

Hi Friends,

So today's question is which of John's books would I like to be made into a movie, and why?
Sidenote: Whenever "and why" is added to the end of any question, I automatically feel like I'm taking a test. That's what 14 years in the education system will do to you.

I would like to see Paper Towns made into a movie.  It's definitely my favorite of his books, and the only one that I've re-read.  But my reasoning goes beyond just liking it the best.  I think that Paper Towns would translate the best from book to movie form because of the way that it's written.  I'm not saying that you couldn't make the others into movies, I just think that Paper Towns would be easiest, and being an over-stressed college student with way too much work to do all the time, I tend to think in terms of what is easiest to accomplish the fastest.

Speaking of books and movies, I am ridiculously excited for HP7 to come out next month! I follow Harry Potter Film on twitter, and all the posters and trailers and everything that they've been posting have definitely gotten me looking forward to the event.  I was hanging out with my big (in my sorority) the other day and we're both kind of really into Harry Potter, and she asked if I would go with her to the midnight showing. We got a whole group together and we're going to dress up and totally geek out. It's going to be totally awesome!

Day 1: My Favorite Hank Song

Hellooooo there friends!

So I'm not gonna lie - this one was legitimately difficult to decide on.  My first thought was that I should just figure out which one is stuck in my head all the time, and that one is my favorite.  That one would be DFTBA or This Isn't Hogwarts.  But then after thinking about it for a while, I realized that I would not consider either of those my favorites.  Then I thought that I should look at my itunes and figure which one has the most plays (tie between Accio Deathly Hallows and Nerdfighterlike) and although I could listen to the multitudinous versions of Accio Deathly Hallows for a very long time, and hearing Hank and Katherine sing Nerdfighterlike makes my heart melt, neither of those are my favorites either.  And then I thought about a few other songs that I just really like, such as Luck of my Life, WWCPD, Jesus Gets Nothing for Christmas, Dead Boy's Girlfriend, I Know, Crime Dramas Suck, A Song About an Anglerfish and many, many more.  Basically, I don't really have a favorite Hank song, but I guess if I absolutely had to pick, I would choose A Song About an Anglerfish.  I think that what really appeals to me about this song is it's multi-level interpretation scheme (ps I have no idea if that phrase makes sense in human life), which totally mirrors a ton of vlogbros videos and just a lot of stuff that they do - making something simple (like the reproduction method and life of an anglerfish) correlate to a much deeper and meaningful theme.  That strategy resonates really well with me and find that song to be a piece of sheer brilliance.

That is my very long-winded answer to a very simple question.  Also, I realize that this is technically a day later that I said it would be, seeing as it is now October 10th, but I'm still counting it as the 9th because I haven't gone to sleep yet. Yes, I cheat. Deal with it :)

Life Lesson #1: find time to be inspiring!

Hi Friends!
So I have this friend.  He's one of the janitors in my res hall and he's the nicest guy I've ever met.  I see him every morning when I leave for class and he always offers a warm hello and a unique compliment (my favorite so far is "well aren't you just bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning!").  Today I saw him when I was coming back between classes in the morning and he stopped me in the hallway and gave me a little motivational speech.  He told me that I need to conquer the day, just as he has to conquer the building.  He didn't say it in so little words though, and I think I heard the phrase "conquer the day" about 6 times in his 2 minute speech. This immediately put a smile on my face (I was having kind of a crappy day so far) and temporarily gave me confidence to conquer the world.
Moral of the story - Find the time to tell somebody that they're awesome and that they can do anything and not to lose sight of their dreams. It's a nice thing to do and it can really brighten somebody's day.

On another note, as I was flipping through effyeahnerdfighters, I found one of those 30 day challenge things for tublr/blogs/whatever and I kind of want to do it, just to help get started. So I'm going to do just that.

College at its Finest

Hey world,
Not gonna lie, after a few days since the last post I kinda forgot about this blog... oops! But then, after another moment of procrastination it came back to me and I decided to write again :)

I've been fairly busy since last week. A) I had to cram for that bio exam that I mentioned last time.  I thought that I did pretty awesome on it, but then when I got the grade back I wasn't entirely happy with it. But it's whatever. I've never been a good test taker, so I'm really not too surprised.
B) I got a little in my sorority :) I'm so excited to have a little! Big Sis reveal is the day after tomorrow, so I've been busy getting her gifts and being crafty.  I put myself in charge of making tee shirts for my family, which has been INCREDIBLY time consuming! I have a BIG family now! It's all fun though, I absolutely love it.  If I didn't love it, I wouldn't volunteer to be crafty (which I usually am not even in the slightest).
C) I've had some friend drama. Well, not so much drama as blurring of some boundaries, which may or may not turn into drama, but hey - you gotta keep things interesting, right? ;)
D) Family weekend/ Homecoming happened at my school. Not that I was involved in either, but it's always a fun weekend to assure other parents that THEIR children are well-adjusted compared to that hungover skank doing a walk of shame on a saturday morning while everybody is out enjoying the beautiful fall weather :) (point of clarification - I was not a hungover skank doing a walk of shame - I merely appeared to be so after spending the night with friends and ACCIDENTLY wearing some surrius (spelled as it is said) booty shorts). Also, it doesn't count as real homecoming if your school doesn't have a football team. Just sayin'.
E) SLUper Bowl practices started. Most fun Greek event of the year.
F) I got my cartilage pierced! I've wanted to for a long time, but some sisters and I finally went and we all got pierced! It was very fun.

So all of that, on top of real school work, has made me a very busy girl. Let's hope this coming week isn't quite as hectic!
